Phoenix trip

Last weekend was AWESOME! It was so, so good to see Caylen and David. We had never been to Arizona (or anywhere close for that matter) so it was a new experience. I didn't know what to expect...except for the heat. SO hot!! I don't know how many times we heard "Oh don't worry, it's a dry heat" but that means nothing to us. Ben and I are both very hot natured. We think the extra money on the utility bill is worth it to keep the AC pumping. That being said, no way we would survive in Phoenix. The average high for our visit was 104 degrees....in May. Wow.

After a pretty uneventful day of airports, Caylen picked us up and we did some shopping and exploring. At this point we were just staring out the car windows trying to take it all in. It was so good to just be with Caylen. It wasn't like we had to catch up since we talk almost every day (even if it's gchat) so I was just satisfied with sitting in her crayon smelling Jetta. On the way to their apartment we stopped at Sprinkles to pick up some of their famous cupcakes. Here is my red velvet:

The next day we left for the Grand Canyon as soon as David got out of class in the morning. On the way we stopped in Flagstaff for lunch. This is where C & D go skiing (jealous!) in the winter. Ben got a few pictures from the car. It was crazy seeing snow just an hour away from over 100 degrees.

The Grand Canyon was overwhelming. Pictures can't show how amazing and HUGE it is. We tried taking pictures from all angles but there is no way to capture it. Here are a few attempts...

of course, it's a Calvert boy thing...

this picture explains alot about their relationship, ha

The next day we were all over the place. We went to Westgate and shopped around. We stopped at Margaritaville to cool off and get a drink. Classy, I know. I had to keep Ben away from the gift shop, and we also listened to him make plans to retire at 25 and wear hats like Jimmy Buffet. I love my husband, but he's definitely a dreamer.

After Westgate we went to the Cardinals stadium where the boys got all excited over the retractable grass. It was pretty cool. And hot.

We had some time to kill before the baseball game so we went to Cabella's and shopped around. There were some hardcore stuffed animals in there. Everything from an elephant to a polar bear to a squirrel. The sign said they were real but I doubt it. It was cool to watch anyways. Our boys had a good time with the shooting game.

Next it was time for the Diamondbacks game! I was so excited about this! I'd never been in a stadium with a roof. Many thanks to the people who decided a roof was a good idea! The person taking our tickets at the gate said it was 102 degrees outside and it was 5:30 pm. Even though AC during a baseball game was amazing, it was no Turner Field.

We can't go to Arizona without getting a cactus pic! We had SO much fun with the Kyles and we miss them so much. Selfishly, I want them to move out here so we could live in the same city forever and be neighbors like our parents but I guess these fun long weekend visits will do for now.

This is sooo fun! I am jealous you got to go to the GC! We tried to do that a couple of years ago and hike to the bottom - but, the lodging down there books up to a year in advance! Yikes! How far is Phoenix to the Rim?

Love the pics and updates! Missed you at all the showers, but now we see why!!
